Easter in 2054

Although the pandemic paved the way for new digital worship formats, the wave of digitalisation hoped for in the churches fell short of expectations. Nevertheless, innovative forms of religious communication are emerging. UZH theologian Thomas Schlag examines the extent to which generative AI is enriching, using the example of Easter.

In his article, Thomas Schlag writes that many new forms of religious communication have emerged in recent years, including digital networks, global prayer communities and religious influencers. However, classic religious symbolism seems to be missing in some digital representations.

Using AI, the author outlines possible future scenarios for Easter. It is emphasized that the Christian celebration of Easter will continue to have an important cultural significance in the future, and it is speculated that new, as yet unknown digital forms of expression could develop to represent the celebration.
