Towards Personalized Treatment Decisions with Digital Twins

The InnoTreat: Towards Personalized Treatment Decisions with Digital Twins project aims to improve the accuracy of clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions for shoulder pathologies. By integrating patient-specific anatomy into biomechanical simulations, the project aims to provide insight into the underlying mechanisms of shoulder pathology and thereby better target rehabilitation programs. The project focuses on rotator cuff ruptures, which affect a significant proportion of the population, and addresses the limitations of current treatment options by developing a digital twin application that visualizes patient-specific diagnoses and altered biomechanics. The cross-institutional collaboration leverages expertise in imaging (University of Zurich), biomechanics (ZHAW) and clinical practice (University Hospital Basel) in an iterative research collaboration.
