RESEARCH VIDEO provides a streamlined interface for annotating video, making the interplay between video and text simple and intuitive. RESEARCH VIDEO was developed for artistic and performative research and beyond. In this final step, the interface was integrated into the ZHdK e-learning environment, making it accessible and stable for future use.

The MODCAST tool, which was further developed as part of the DIZH project, now enables not only sound but also moving images to be permanently and interactively linked with any content.

The tools Research Video and Modcast contribute to linking assignments in courses, especially bachelor theses, master theses and research projects in certain disciplines (such as artistic research) much more closely to practice and not conceiving them as pure text.

Research Video had already been developed into a working prototype in a previous SNF project and was relaunched within the Rapid Action funding, the design was refreshed and the hosting was transferred to the e-learning department of the ZHdK, thus ensuring long-term availability as part of a digital infrastructure. It is thus available to ZHdK students, staff and researchers, and can also be used by external researchers after they have requested access. We expect such formats to become increasingly important, as pure text-based artistic research has long been problematized. Both tools are already being used in higher education pedagogical contexts, e.g., for film analysis. Video-based research is becoming easier and more accessible.

Modcast has been tested in teaching at ZHdK since spring semester 2023.
